Thanks Rebecca!  Some stuff I noticed:

- LOTS of white out on the faces of Stan and Jack for their two panel cameo in issue 98.   Looks like they were redrawn, perhaps by some one other than Cockrum?
- Pencils for Pages 15 and 16 of Giant Sized X-Men #2 are provided.  Wait you say, Giant Sized X-Men #2 was a reprint of the classic Neal Adams Sentinels story.  Yes, but apparently the plot that ultimately appeared in X-Men 94 and 95 was originally going to be a second Giant sized issue.  I have never heard about this before, and a Google search revealed nothing.  Please let me know if you have any knowledge of this.  The pages shown have the X-Men arriving at the NORAD mountain, and then being attacked by automated defences.  I wonder if pages were reused for 94 and 95, or if the entire story was repencilled?

Most likely redrawn by Marie Severin.

To supplement the quarterly Giant-Size issues Marvel was already doing for titles like Avengers, Spider-Man, etc., TPTW decided to kick off some new titles which would be exclusively Giant-Size - extended lead feature with reprints in the back like the others. They managed to kick off a few: Giant-Size Super Villain Team-Up, Giant-Size X-Men and Giant-Size Invaders.

SVTU lasted two issues and the other two one apiece before plans changed and they switched formats from oversized quarterly to standard sized bimonthly (at first). Plans to do Champions as a quarterly were shelved before it started and it kicked off as a bimonthly. IIRC, the Crusader story in Fantastic Four #164-165 started life as an issue of Giant-Size Fantastic Four. Meanwhile, the Giant-Size format went exclusively reprint and died shortly thereafter.

They wouldn't have re-penciled the issue, but it's possible some adjustments were made to fit into the new format.

I remember reading Len Wein talk about the plans for GSX #2 being
responsible for the unusually fast intro/demise of Thunderbird. The idea was
that, if the stories were going to be spaced out by the infrequently issued
GIANT SIZE format, then Len wanted to keep readers on their toes. He thought
killing Thunderbird was a way to do that.

Once the book became bi-monthly, it was too late to change their mind and
Thunderbird had to go anyway-- even though the motivation for having him die
was gone.

The originally planned Giant-Size X-Men #2 must've been entirely pencilled by Cockrum. I've seen the two pages of it before that were never used, never inked or lettered. I'm thinking the rest was probably salvaged and finished with some new pages added.

Looks like they probably re-worked these pages and made it into X-Men #94 and #95. (Much like the schedule Giant-Size Avengers #5 became Avengers #145 & #146).
