This image has been floating around lately... What's the scoop on Stan Lee's legs?

I’d be more concerned about the legs Cap and Thor are missing!

I've owned that magazine for decades and never noticed the missing legs until someone pointed that fact out on Facebook a few weeks ago.

Looking at that cover, I find I have absolutely no memory of drawing it, tho I must assume I did it in about eight minutes, there's so much wrong! In addition to being amputees, Cap and Thor are somehow folding space, since Thor is clearly standing behind Cap, yet his foot is in front. Stan's long legs appear not to be touching the floor. The Hulk is also missing his right foot--tho I can perhaps blame that one on the coloring.

SIDEBAR: The Comics Guild!Oh, how I remember those days--with chills! Comicbook professionals trying to form a labor union. One writer even declared how great it would be, since "We'll be able to STRIKE!" I pointed out that might not be the best idea, since, at that time, books like MARVEL TALES, MARVEL'S GREATEST ADVENTURES, etc, reprints all, were selling just as well as the first run books. A whole lot of readers didn't even seem to realize they were reprints! And there was a LOT of material that could be reprinted!

Mr. Byrne, that is true. I was kid in the 1970's and bought both the Fantastic Four and Marvel's Greatest Comics each month and for a long time I didn't know that one was reprinted. I also didn't understand why Reed and Johnny has squiggles on there bodies in the MGC stories.

Iron Man’s foot right foot is behind Spider-Man’s left foot even tho he and the rest of his leg is in in front of S-M.

Yeah, the Iron Man leg is weird. It's like he's wrapped his leg around Spider-Man's. Maybe partially a colouring issue, though not entirely. Maybe we can blame Joe Rubinstein for the rest!
Cap clearly is squashing a fly with his right knee against the right-hand side of Stan's chair, so that is fine. And he just beat Thor to it.
The drawing has its flaws, but I still like it.

Just to see how it looks, I retouched the original picture to slightly change Captain America's foot, and give both him and Thor their missing legs. I also colored the spaces between Spider-Man and Iron Man's feet to suggest Hulk's right foot, too.
