I find Diet Big 8 Cola is often completely out in Sobeys (for those outside Canada, Sobeys is a supermarket chain, and Big 8 is their generic pop/fizzy drink/soda brand), while the 'full fat' version is on the shelves in large numbers. Drives me crazy.

I've noticed Dr. Pepper is often out of stock in Seattle.
This makes sense during a pandemic as Dr. Pepper is a superfood, the ultimate cure, the sweet elixir that heals all.

No pop for me for about a decade now, but if there had been a shortage of Mt. Dew back in the day I would've had a serious bout of jonesing!

I drink almost all sparkling waters now of various brands (Talking Rain, a Pacific Northwest based brand is my favorite), but the one soda I still drink is occasionally (since it doesn't taste diet-y) which is Diet A&W Root Beer, also distributed by the 7up People, and the 24 packs are *hard to find* lately. I've been having to buy 2 liters.

We had a soda or 'pop' shortage in the U.K. a couple of years ago, it was due to a shortage of Carbon Dioxide. So it was used where it was most important to industry. I drink vodka with ice cream soda as a mixer, i couldn't get any for a couple of months. You could still get the big brands like Coca Cola, but a lot of supermarket own brands were limited to just lemonade.

As geezerhood has forced itself upon me, I have been slowly losing various favorite foods due to their tendency to cause instant and massive acid reflux. Gone is red meat. Gone is chocolate. And now, it appears, carbonation is next on the list. Just as I discovered a real fondness for Diet Pepsi!

My local grocery store has a sign saying the soda creators are focusing on their main sellers at that the lesser selling flavors are going to be less available.
I lay off the stuff these days but did notice the sign the other day.

Occasionally a Mountain Dew but it doesn't sit well w me.
Goose Island Root Beer used to be my go to choice but its like searching for a wonka bar w golden ticket and that was pre pandemic
I drink more tea these days than anything.

JB, try Dr. Zevia. An all-natural, sugar-free alternative to Dr Pepper. It may be the phosphoric acid that they put into most commercial sodas that is giving you the reflux problem. And can have a host of other potential health issues as well.
Zevia is only carbonated water, which is a very different thing.

It's not so much a soda shortage as it is an aluminum can shortage. Link It's hitting every beverage producer, but some more than others.
