My inclination is that the more we see/learn about the Wolverine, the more it detracts from the character. I think that applies to everyone, even JB. I'd therefore have to vote no.

I have to say that I wouldn't be entirely interested in Wolverine's origin (sigh) unless it's a significant contribution to a story. I know you don't throw such elements around capriciously, Mr. Byrne, but I feel there are other elements in Wolverine's past, revealed or not, that would be more fun (let's say a crossover between Wolverine and the Liberty Legion.)

Still, I trust you completely, Mr. Byrne. If  you used it - it wouldn't be wasted.

So I shall abstain. Courteously.

Show of hands, who’d like to see this in ELSEWHEN?

******

JB, I'd love to see your take on Logan's origin.

Wolverine's origin has haunted me since the day I first read it over 40 years ago. So yeah, I'd kinda like for it to see the light of day.

I'm oppose to Wolverine's origin being told. That being said, I wish that we would have gotten JB's Wolverine origin instead of the lame origin we ended up with. So yeah, I would like to see JB's Wolverine origin told in Elsewhen. Speaking of the lame Wolverine Origin comic, that comic is a classic example of creators whose reasons for telling a story was because (a) they thought it would be "cool" (b) they wanted to leave their mark on the character and (c) they were banking on at least part of their "contribution" to the character getting adapted to the big screen (which sadly, it did).

OK, I've considered what Peter Martin wrote.

One of the draws to Wolverine was his mystery. We did get
a drip drip of that history, but it built, rather than
diminished his character.

Ultimately, I liked Wolverine when I did not know his
past. Learning his past was the second to last nail in
his coffin for me. HIM learning his past was the last
nail.

So, thank you Peter. I like hints. I even like knowing
his past from outside the comics, much like we 'knew'
Magneto was the father of Wanda and Pietro from outside
the comics. Knowing that there was some relationship
between Wolverine and Sabretooth.

But that knowledge making it into the comics, as a
definitive, closes doors, rather than opens them.

So I change my vote to no, other than through hints here
and there that allude to this without definitive
confirmation please.

We're well beyond the point at which Wolverine can really be considered "mysterious". So many writers have picked ways--even slashed away--at his backstory, and even his present day details, there's hardly anything we can really say we don't know.

And this is much more preferable than what has been put out there.

Bone claws, anyone?
