I hope the letterer got paid by the word for this book. Holy smokes, I think that's the most words I've ever seen on a comic book page. Especially for one where nothing interesting (by comic standards) is happening! Young Jim would not at all been fond of this page.

As students at an exclusive private school, weren't the X-Men what would later be called "preppy"?

As a scion of wealth, Warren might fit that designation, but the others are too middle class, I think.

Would Scott be considered middle-class? Being an orphan and all.....•• I'm being generous, being from lower class origins myself.

I love that X-Men page Jim posted (all the dialogue and everything). The X-Men frequenting a beatnik coffee house was one of the fun things about the Silver-Age comics. And Bernard, The Poet gave me the answer of life with his out there poetry!

BTW, I also love that in that particular page, the Beatniks, outsiders of society as they were considered, not only welcome Beast because of his oddly large feet, they celebrate him for it!

Wherever did he get the necessary dairy products? Best not to ask, perhaps!! BTW, that's not breakfast.

An example there, btw, of Stan writing beyond what Jack drew. Kirby was pretty obviously casting Jean, the female, as chief cook and bottle washer. Stan provided an in context justification—and a temporary one.
