My first comic was Spider-Man Comics Weekly (A4 size B&W reprints of ASM with other strips too).
My first US comics were Marvel 2-in-1 #43 (JB art) and Marvel Team Up #73 (DD)
I didn't get regular pocket money, so any pennies were precious and had to be earned (normally 30p for mowing the lawn and vacuuming the car!) Man, I was cheap labour!
The other comics that I devoured at this time were UK B&W reprints of early ASM in a pocket book format. Two to three full Lee/Ditko stories in each issue - and I knew they were special even then!

I think the first comic I went and bought for myself would be FANTASTIC FOUR #147. I remember reading a couple issues of IRON MAN and CAPTAIN AMERICA at a friend's house before that, but something about this cover caught my eye -

Pretty hard to narrow down all of them after my first.
But I definitely remember what that first one was: Fantastic Four #122

I had some random hand-me-downs and digests that my parents bought me, but this was the first comic that I bought for myself.

I certainly would have a hard time recalling the first 45 issues I ever owned, considering my father first started picking-up comics for me, on his way home from work, when I was only about 3 1/2 years old. I tried to rebuild my childhood collection over the past 15 years, to the best that my memory would serve, and these are the earliest issues I can remember my dad leaving at the end of my bed, for when I woke up the next morning (I'm sure I've forgotten more than a few over the decades, but these are the ones that always stood out in my mind):
Lots of fond memories... thanks, Dad!!

Cool Dad, Shaun! Mine had a job as the delivery guy for a bakery and stocked loaves of bread and other things to small and large stores' shelves, usually going in through the back entrances. At some of these he would buy a comic for either myself or my brother, probably when he was either picking up milk for Mom or cigs. Super-Team Family #6 was a great issue because it had a classic Marvel Family story and I was into those from early Shazam issues.
If anyone does remember a '70s Tom & Jerry where Jerry (& Tuffy, a smaller mouse) carved perfect likenesses of themselves out of soap (which the Tom cat then ate and had bubbles coming out), I have fond memories of it from a length of time being sick in bed... it'd be fun to see that one again. So many others just didn't have anything that specific as to be lodged in my memory.

45 is such an arbitrary and odd number for me to try to backtrack and recall back to the mid-late 70's at this point, but I distinctly recall the very first 2 I consider my 'firsts' because I remember picking them up in a Weston's store in Watertown NY back in late 76/early '77 in one of those 'two-packs' sold in that era.
Four Star Spectacular #4 (Sept/Oct 76) Justice League of America #134 (Sept 76)

Yes, 45 is an arbitrary number. But it's divisible by 3 (for the three packs) and I stopped counting after my first 2 years of collecting. I had about 2 more 3-packs in '84 but wanted to stop before it got out of hand.
I'm a little jealous of the people who said they got their first comics at 3 1/2 or 5 or 6. That's so cool.

I distintly remember the first comic book that I got. It was Superman 160.
I honestly don't remember which next 45 comics I got, in part because my mother got rid of most of my comics about 3 years later, which resulted in me re-obtaining many of these issues over the years.

Interesting to see everyone's replies on this particular topic. For me, I started collecting in the mid-70s with a definite leaning towards Marvel Comics over DC or any independent company. The majority of the issues on my list came from either my grandmother as gifts during one of her visits to our house during the summer time, or through a trip to one of various drug stores or 7-11 convenience stores in the area that sold comic books on the rack.
