Fascinating life of his mother.

News that the BBC has received over 100,000 complaints that they are devoting too much time to this story.

Hm. 100 thousand out of a population of 66 million. Hardly worth noticing, surely?

A big viewing audience on BBC 1 these days is 10 million people. 1% of viewers felt compelled to actually fill out a form and complain. Feels significant enough.

My own anecdotal evidence from speaking to my friends back home is that 100% were pissed off with the coverage.

The BBC cancelled their programming on BBC1 and BBC2 to show the same programme on each channel simultaneously. That's nuts, whichever way you slice it.

Nuts—unless you belong to the 99% who seem not to mind.

There was a request for flowers not to be sent but for donations to charities to be made instead.

Cue thousands of bouquets sent to Buckingham Palace.

Philip himself reputedly requested 'no fuss' prior to his passing; unfortunately that ship has long since sailed.

The story certainly warranted headline coverage, but for every main channel to cancel their schedule in favour of four hour programmes regurgitating the same information really did seem like too much.

I thought it was overkill and just turned over to The Simpsons after a while (it would never occur to me to actually make a  complaint about the level of coverage about Philip's death).

Interestingly, Channel 4 suffered a lot of complaints for not changing their schedule to allow more room for the story.

The funeral was sad today. Despite rumours of a not always close relationship between them, Charles looked utterly forlorn as he walked behind Philip's coffin.
