I really hope they go with unknowns for the FF.

DAP,

I can see (hear?) Keith David as Galactus.

Also Eddie Marsan as the Mole Man.

Yeah, and Micheal K. Williams LOOKS like Phillip Masters (to me).

Modern casting I would go for Michael Shannon as Doctor Doom. He's shown in the past he can do a Germanic accent very well and he has the eyes.

Peter, I love Michael Shannon - he would be an excellent choice out of many options out there. I'm quite fond of Nikolaj Coster-Waldau myself. In the recent fancasting craze over the past few days, I've seen a lot of other great choices and some pretty goofy ones.

Shouldn't the accent be a blend of Romanian, Hungarian and Serbian considering the imaginary location of Latveria?

You tell me! In my youth, I just kind of saw Latveria as being a fictional Latvia -- mainly because of the similarity in names -- but as an adult came to realise that assumption was off the mark. I know Marvel has boringly given an actual spot on the map for it, but I see it more like somewhere near the region that was once called Bohemia.

Given it's Doomstadt and not Doomgrad or Doomměsto, I see him as more Germanic than Slavic. He is Von Doom, also something of a Germanic indication.

And Kirby/Lee said it was in the Bavarian Alps... That's a bit odd, as that squarely puts it in Germany and then in the same tale they seem to call the same place Balkan, although it's a bit ambiguous as to whether it still was in Latveria at that point.

Peter, Very fair points. Tricky thing of having a fictional country that passes through many hands before somebody later decides to put a pin on the map for it. Since Marvel did put it on the map, I'm using that aforementioned blend (mostly leaning on Romanian) for the dialect foundation for adapting FF258.

My other two-penneth would be the accent would be best served as being only slight. Firstly, that will sound less stilted. Secondly, in FF#16 they hear Doom's voice (from the micro world in which he has made himself king) and don't recognise it, which suggests it can't be too overt.

[Complete side-note: use of 'dialect' when referring to accents, such as dialect coach, seems odd to me. You often hear actors talking about how they worked with an excellent dialect coach... And the role will end up with them doing a different accent but speaking English with zero dialect. To me, dialect is different words and phrases. eg bairn for baby or kirk for church).

Latveria looks Germanic or Austrian to me when Byrne or Kirby draws it.

Well, it was in the Bavarian Alps for a bit.

David Allen Perrin: Eddie Marsan as the Mole Man is a stroke of (hypothetical) casting genius!
