I was introduced to the character by Wayne Boring and Curt Swan, tho it would be many years before I knew their names.

Among your newer artists, Gary Frank does a great job with Superman (and with Clark Kent), and Ivan Reis isn't bad, either.

I'd lost interest in Superman in 1999 after Dan Jurgens left. He was the last link to the 1986 reboot, and I just thought things wouldn't be good again (I was right after reading a number of reviews / articles).
I was glad I came back for the Geoff Johns / Gary Frank run on Action and Kurt Busiek / Carlos Pacheo on Superman. A good couple of years stories and art there.
I think George Perez is a Superman great, it's just there isn't enough of it for my liking. I was excited when it was announced he was joining the books in late 1989, but he only stuck around for 7 / 8 months.

My head says Curt Swan, BUT I really "discovered" Superman with JB's MAN OF STEEL in the 80's so in many ways, JB is my heart's choice.

Swan Byrne Everyone else
I'm picky when it comes to Superman. The build. The eyes. The hair. The S shield. Got to be spot on and both Swan and Mr. Byrne got it right panel after panel. All about the consistency.

There was a lot of uncredited artwork in that issue. So hard to say who's Superman that is.

My top three (in order): Jose Luis Garcia-Lopez, Curt Swan, John Byrne.
After them you can lump Neal Adams, Tom Grummett, George Perez and some others.

Out of all the characters Dick Dillin drew for Justice League, for some reason his version of Green Arrow always stuck out to me. Not quite as good as Grell, but right up there.
Its interesting to see the variation in people's tastes. I never would have imagined anyone would put Tom Grummett on the same level with Adams or Perez, but at the end of the day, beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

Even as a little squirt, I didn’t care for Curt Swan’s seemingly overpowered Superman, so his rendition was not a favorite until many years later when I realized it was the story being told and not Mr. Swan’s art that turned me off to it.
JB’s Superman is my favorite, and I will admit to some bias on that. There are others whose artwork on Superman I have enjoyed over the years, including Gary Frank and Dan Jurgens.

I like Grummett. For years, I thought that his style reminded me of JBs, but it didn't quite sit right with me....Until I realized that his style is actually much closer to Kerry Gammill's. Gammill also has a style like JB, but he's taken it into different directions.

I never would have imagined anyone would put Tom Grummett on the same level...

Tom Grummett is a great artist and storyteller, and I wish he'd turned his hand to more characters. But if you look at his DC output it was The New Titans for 4 years, and then the Superman books for 8 years (with stints on Superboy and Robin). That's still a good record.
A little gem with Kurt Busiek called The Power Company as well.
I'd have liked to have seen him tackle Batman, Spider-Man and The Avengers.
