What motivates you to buy?  

If it's new stuff it's going to be from someone other than Marvel or DC. If Comixology has a sales on older Marvel or DC stuff that I want to reread then I buy the stuff I enjoyed growing up. Also, I buy exclusively from Comixology anymore so it has to be available there.

Creative team or characters?

It's generally creative teams that drives the purchase

Does the race, gender, or sexual orientation of a character influence your decision?

Nope, I just care about an enjoyable story.

What about ret-cons?

Since I don't really buy much Marvel or DC stuff retcons are not much of an issue. Ret-cons have always been a mixed bag for me, some are ok and some I hate.

If you still read new comics, what motivates you to buy?

I don't read many new comics, but if I see a character I like with an creative team I like I'm likely to give it a couple issues to see what I think.

Creative team or characters?

A combination of both, but characters is probably more important to me.

Does the race, gender, or sexual orientation of a character influence your decision?

Not really, I remember reading Hero for Hire, the Cat, Tigra, Master of Kung Fu, Black Goliath, etc. as a kid.

What about ret-cons?

If it's done to fix some really messy continuity, sure.  But if it's done just to service a new story, no thanks.
