I thought this was an interesting part from an interview in 2012 with Ann Nocenti, Chris Claremont, and Louise Simonson. Ann talks about a story she worked on with Steve Ditko. She is apparently thinking of "Daredevil" #264, but mistakenly says it was a Spider-Man story:

Thanks, Matt.
I've been searching for the full interview. I came across it once a few months ago, but it's disappeared.

Eric, it's on YouTube Movies, and is free to watch (with ads):
I haven't watched all of it, yet, but will be tonight or tomorrow.

Yes. I just got to the part where Shooter claims that Claremont and JB were "bluffing" about killing Phoenix. I don't recall JB saying he was bluffing about this.

Finished watching the documentary. I was aware of most everything discussed, but it was interesting to watch. The Steve Ditko clip I shared above was an outtake, as the documentary itself pretty much focuses on primarily Claremont and the X-Men (as the title of that doc suggests).
I noted Jim Shooter gave JB sole credit for the idea to bring back Jean Grey. Was he unaware of Kurt Busiek suggesting the way to do that? JB has repeatedly acknowledged Busiek's contribution in interviews and here, in this forum.
A side note of sorts: the cosplayers used periodically throughout the doc show once again how such people, without the huge budget of a Hollywood film, can make a decent and accurate looking costume, etc., based on the actual comic book versions work in live action.

Ironic that Shooter should give me sole credit, since missing from the published credits are Chris Claremont and Jackson Guice, who rewrote and redrew several pages. That was my punishment for having accepted the Superman assignment. Pages that had been approved months earlier were suddenly seriously flawed and had to be “fixed”.Which is why I had my name taken off the credits. “You won’t receive royalties if you do that,” said Shooter. I guess he actually thought that would change my mind.

I am not a devotee of Ditko's personal philosophy but I think all comic fans missed what could have been his contributions to the medium and comics' history if he had been accessible late in his life.

Weather it says your name on the credits of the issue or not, Marvel know exactly what you did for that issue.
