I love Cyclops' outfit, in the X-Men. His graduation costume... not the first, not the "X-Factor" or later outfits. Just basic, but it says so much to me.

Whose costumes do you like and why? Okay, let's get the joke out of the way - "The Hulk has the most basic costume, arf arf arf." Thanks.

Do you prefer a complicated outfit or a basic one? How about leather jackets, pouches, pockets, etc. Long sleeve or short sleeve? And has the Wasp ever worn a costume model that you approve of?

Let's limit it to four costumes, please. Tell us whose you like, and what era.

Wasp—I have a fondness for her original “pointy hat” version.

And as long as we’re in the neighborhood, the original Ant-Man is an all-time favorite, mostly because of the helmet.

Beyond those two, add Captain America, Seventies iteration, and Spider-Man a la Ditko.

Immodestly, Silver Banshee.

Spider-Man, Seventies era.

Batman, Seventies era (Adams or Aparo).

Superman, pretty much any iteration of the classic costume prior to the Jim Lee trunkless armor version.

Personal favorite/out-of-left-field candidate: Firestorm, early Eighties version (Pat Broderick).

Captain America - no pouches, shirt over chain mail, fewer/wider stripes with red in the center
Hawkeye - sleeveless, full head piece with the H; the actual costume, not some street clothes/secret agent mashup
Puck - exposed arms and legs with lots of hair showing (sorry, JB, I believe you prefer the 2nd version)

For me the two best costumes are: Captain American and Batman.

They strike a perfect balance between distinctive touches and simplicity and as a whole are as iconic as they come.

The distinctive touches:

With Batman it's the fins on the gloves, the scallops in the cape, the pointy ears on the mask, the utility belt and that chest symbol. (My preference is for Neal Adams 70s era -- blue and grey, with the yellow oval around the symbol and long ears).

With Cap, it's those stripes on his trunk, the star on his chest, the A on the head, the wings, the buccaneer boots, the long loose cuffs of the gloves and the appeal of the colours (and how the shield is like an extension of his costume).

To round out my four I will add:

Daredevil's classic red costume. The horns, the monochrome for everything, including the eyes, the amazing interlocking DD on the chest, the holster on the leg and how the boots are a little shorter than most other heroes (not everyone draws it this way. But Colan, Mazzuchelli and Byrne did/do and that's the way I like it). Mazzuchelli's long, lean version of DD is my favourite.

Fourth one has a few contenders... I'm gonna go with Guardian. The red and white is so powerful, the helmet with the triangular eyes is so sleek and the wrapping of the flag around the body to give that half-n-half design is a job well done. Pat yourself on the back, JB.

[Also inclined to agree with JB's admiration of Ant-Man's helmet. Looking at some Kirby drawing of Ant-Man, it's only now occurring to me that the black symbol/design down the middle of the costume was originally supposed to be a stylised ant]

In terms of there ever being a Wasp costume gaining my approval, I do quite like the black one with the segmented yellow bits down the torso, but it's a little bit on the sexy side rather than the winsome side.

The 'pointy mask' Iron Man tops my list any day of the week

And assuming villains are allowable ( I can't see they're specifically excluded ) -

Electro (original)
Mysterio (original)
Whirlwind - from Avengers #46 - though less keen on the later 'chainmail'/buzzsaw blades additions and all subsequent versions
