In the News: Guiliani is claiming he declined a knighthood offered by Queen Elizabeth, since acceptance would mean he'd have to give up his American citizenship.

Not only is that not true, but he actually did accept a knighthood in 2002!

America’s Mayor. sigh

Many things, apparently.  It is almost Shakespearean, how the very evil he fought he has become.  What is even more disturbing is own personal perception that he hasn't changed.

His advocacy of Purdue Pharma that prescribed the Sackler's not to be convicted beyond misdemeanor charges, is a one way ticket to hell.  If there is a hell.

Ronald Reagan got an honorary knighthood, I recall. Rudy is probably getting muddled over who can have the title Sir or Dame, for which you would have to be a British citizen.

My, how times have changed.

These days, Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer and Rudy Ruettiger would have better odds of being knighted than him, if he hadn't been already.

He was also probably thinking of Article 1, Section 9, Clause 8 of the Constitution, which forbids people holding office from accepting titles from foreign governments. That why Reagan got an honorary knighthood.

Reagan got an honorary knighthood, because non-British citizens can ONLY receive honorary knighthood. It’s an an issue of British law, not US. The foreign emoluments clause would not have been an issue for Reagan, who was out of office at the time, nor Giuliani, who did not have a federal position and was also no longer mayor.
