I was at an LCS today (buying Doom Patrol, 'natch) and overheard a conversation between the store manager and a customer. The customer is a Byrne fan and was a rabid comic fan until the multi-cover poly-bagged early '90s. He hasn't bought anything since the cancellation of X-Men:the Hidden Years, which he thought could have gone a hundred issues. He asked what Byrne was up to these days. The manager mentioned Doom Patrol, but I don't think he mentioned Action or Demon, or any of the intervening titles. He said that Byrne wasn't as popular as he once was, partially because JB doesn't "try as hard" with his art. He then proceeded with his theory on how JB once learned to draw "one face", which was Reed Richards, and that all of his other faces, including the women, were variations on that face.
I said, "That's the most ignorant thing I've heard in a long time", bought DP, and encouraged the customer to check it out. The customer said he'd never forgiven JB for not finishing 'The Last Galactus Story'. I explained that was out of JB's control and told the customer about this website. He thanked me, bought nothing, and left.

You begin to see why I get frustrated. There are so many bullshit stories about myself and my work that have become LORE, and must be rattled off by rote in order to Prove One Is In The Know. Your retailer is obviously either brain damaged or blind. Even if we look solely at the work following FF (or even during), there is no way anyone who actually looked at the books could say Johnny Storm was "a variation" on Reed Richards. Or that Superman was. or that Superman looked just like Perry White. Or Perry looked just like Lois!

Is that first one Reed Richards? (I've never read JB's FF so I wouldn't know)
If so, I really hate to say this, but your Reed Richards looks quite a bit like
Control from Next Men.
You think this coincidence (I'm assuming) similarity could be in someway
involved of this nonsense?
That's my only possible explination (okay, not really, but the only one
with any logic attached to it what so ever).

I believe the first face is Perry White.

Thought it looked a little odd for Reed Richards, Perry White makes sense,
still needing to get arround to reading JB's FF.
Edited to add: And if it is not Reed Richards then I have no rational
expanation for this what so ever, it truly is quite stupid.

Jacob, you should definitley try his FF. I know many libraries have the collected trades, so you can check one out. And it doesn't matter what book you start with ...

Yeah do check out JB's FF run, some of the best and most beloved comics ever published... which is funny considering the way people talk about JB today. I would still respect the man just for FF even if his artwork degraded to stick figures with smiley faces...

Reed Richards is a master chameleon! Is there nothing that
man can't do?

Go. Read. JB's Fantastic Four is the equal to JB's Uncanny X-Men run. I will say to you what I always tell those about to enjoy something great for the first time: I envy you. And I will say two other words that have meant so much to me as the years go by:
Galactus falls!

It should be noted that JB's Reed Richards looks different from the beginning
of his FF run against how he looked at the end of the run, so WTF??
