Surprised no one started this yet.  Thoughts?

Wow. This is the first new, true Superman story I've read in decades.

Great issue, especially the "special guests" at the end of the story.  Nelsons inks look good(almost a rough Mark Farmer), this issue still looks like Byrne pencilled it.  What is all this about a misprint?  From what I can tell, my issue wasn't one of the mistakes that DC printed.

Very good!  I thought Teth Adam was well done by GS and JB.  Art is incredible.  Ima Nelson lova, yo!

Black Adam was fun, but a heckuva challenge. This was the first time I had drawn the character -- I did not get as far as his first appearance in my aborted CAPTAIN MARVEL project, lo these many years ago -- and, of course, trying to make him not look like Namor was a major consideration. I think I succeeded somewhat better in the fourth issue, where he has a walk-on -- or glide on, more precisely.

Really excellent issue, Gail and John.  I enjoyed it from beginning to end.  I haven't been all too pleased with Superman comics since his death and return, but I'm currently picking up two titles starring him; SUPERMAN (Verheiden/Benes) and ACTION, and loving them both.  I loved what Gail did with Polaris.  First time I think I've ever seen a fully realized MPD played out in such a manner.  Loved Repulse's dialog and her nicknames for Superman; "Peanut", "Doodlebug" and her likening Superman to an extra-terrestrial Robinson Crusoe.  What can I say about Lois?  We finally see a woman who's got, er, balls!  For so long she's been kind of a sidekick to Superman, but in this issue we see a woman unafraid to be the crusading reporter...just as she should be portrayed.  The art by JB and Nelson is, simply, beautiful.  From the two-page splash, to how easily Superman deals with the cables from the bridge on page 11 panel 1, to Teth Adam and the final page with Lois in Superman's arms, it's pitch-perfect and exactly what I've come to expect from John.

Thanks, guys!  Looking forward to many more issues to come!

Just bought this issue, and I had actually unable to find the last one (it was sold out everywhere I looked.) The story was still perfectly accessible, and enjoyable. I don't recall ever being so impressed with Byrne's art, and I was intrigued by the appearance of Black Adam, and Zoom. I will be adding this to my pull list (and hunting down 827).

As close to a perfect Superman book as has been done in ages. Of course, I
can't really support that statement from experience as I have been unable to
stomach the books for more than the occasional test purchase for over a
decade. In any event this is the type of Superman story and art I have longed
for. John, your art was so perfect for Gail's story. I actually liked Lois and
Jimmy's appearance, characterization and actions (which were actually true
to character). Great final page as well.

Maybe in a few years from now people will be talking about the Simone / Byrne run on Superman in the same way as Claremont / Byrne X-Men.It's possible !

Good issue, JB.

Can someone tell me what group Black Adam and Zoom are in?  I assume they're bad guys.

Black Adam regularly appears in JSA.  Zoom regularly appears in FLASH.  Both will probably be appearing in VILLAINS UNITED, a COUNTDOWN spin-off written by Gail Simone with art by Dale Eaglesham and Wade von Grawbadger.

SPOILERS:

Black Adam has become the ruler of a country who loves his subjects, but finds himself at odds with the JSA and other heroes. I enjoyed the scene where he returned to help Superman hold the bridge to save the citizenry!
I had high hopes for him when he joined the JSA, and was saddened a bit when he left the "side of the angels."
Couple that with the Flash, where his former Rogues-turned-good are now baddies again, and the Villains United series, & I smell somethin' wicked brewin'!
