Apparently the good folks at Titan Books, on the heels of their "Comic Creators on Fantastic Four" tome are preparing another such volume, this time on the X-Men. And, of course, they want me to give an interview.

But I'm not sure I want to. It's 25 years, and there must be hundreds of pages out there with me talking about the X-Men. Not to mention direct response to fan questions here. I feel like there is nothing new to say.

Of course, I also know how the internet will churn with stories of how M***** and Titan "didn't want" me to be part of this new book if I don't participate.

Thoughts?

Maybe you can see this as an opportunity to put it things to rest once and
for all? If you don't plan on "going back" to X-Men (or at least the
"Uncanny" version), maybe you can treat this as an opportunity to step
back and look at your work through your more experienced eyes? Maybe
reread the issues (whether visually or word-for-word) and provide
appropriate commentary? What you would never change, what you may
have, yet not providing ammo for people to say "ah, I noticed back then
Byrne wasn't...). With time maybe some of your thoughts on things did
change or evolve?

I'd much rather read your own thoughts on the issues you worked on than
someone else interprettting or mindreading your thoughts on them.

I know you do that on a regular basis online, but there are some Luddites
out there who aren't part of this amazing forum. Give them a chance to
hear your "voice".

John, My thoughts are if you're done with the X-Men and you feel you've nothing new to add to what you've already said before. Then decline the interview and the hell with all the negative things people will say. Certainly no matter what you do someone will find a problem with it. You can save yourself the hassle. If you've a mind to do so.

Who was it that said, "every issue is someone's first issue"? And this
book might just be someone's first exposure to the history of the X-
men. And all ass-kissing aside, you're much too important to that to
be left out or let someone else tell your story. Do the interview, JB.

I say do it, I have nothing to add other than that, I think Wayne and David
summed up everything I was thinking perfectly.

Send the FAQ, and a 13 second Hidden Years Sketch.

You're a busy guy.

All I know is that the book would feel incomplete without your insights Mr Byrne.

I think that whatever you'd have to say would be new to a lot of the people who buy the book, who don't actively search for interviews on the Internet.

You are certainly a major part of The X-Men's history, JB.  It'd be a better book if you were there.

I'd say do it, and make sure they try to get an interview with Neal Adams as well.

JB, I'd want you to participate not only because I'd want to read it (even having read nearly every other interview you've been a part of), but also because a book on the creators of the X-Men wouldn't be complete without you.

Also, many things you've said in the past might have been from another perspective, being that you were a younger man at the time. I still feel that you might have something more to add, provided the interviewer comes up with the right questions.

I'm going to say, "yes," do the interview.

I agree with Wayne. There is always a new audience.

No matter what anyone says, it can't be called ass-kissing to say JB is one of the most important figures in the history of the X-Men. He is, and that's a fact. Look at how many people continue to this very day to riff on his work with Chris Claremont. Wolverine, alone, wouldn't still be around in all likelihood, were it not for JB. Anyone who doubts that doesn't know their comic history.

Count me in on the "do it" group.
