I think you and I may have very different opinions about what a "free country" is Joe.  Wikipedia states what it is, quite obviously.  For JB to correct it, then have no one else edit it after he is done, would be against the entire concept of it's creation.

IMDB.COM has lost a lot of respect.  If Wikipedia hasn't already, it will.  As long as they are stating that anyone can edit it (hence, open to inaccuracies), they are doing all they need to do.

I really like the concept of Wiki's, and I have gone to Wikipedia quie often to get information about a city that I was going to be visiting.

It's too bad that something like this is most always tainted by the few who have no idea how to repsectufully handle the power to given to them. Using that power for the benefit of everyone, and neglecting self interests, people could really make this a great store of informatrion about anything and everything.  It's a Great Idea, a pure information warehouse, without filters, but we see that there are plenty who just don't want to play nice when it comes down to executing the Great Idea.

I'm really curious to see how this plays out.

Why not go to the other extreme, JB? If they won't let you make it accurate and won't stick to facts why not really make the thing ridiculous so that people KNOW what it is.

You're acting like the site is "wrong" for having the concept that they have.

The concept is fine. It's the idiots who want to fill it up with their idioicy then defend their right to mess it up.

Jon, why do you say that IMDb has lost a lot of respect?  Stick to the main page of any entry where you can't dispute films made, dates and box office, and it's a great site. The biographies written by fans on the second page are clearly marked as such, even including the email addresses of the people who write them.

From the Wikipedia Byrne article:
"Byrne has implied on his message board that both he and Simone will be
leaving the title by early 2005, short of the originally announced 12-
month run."
That's just plain not true.

And if you were to amend that piece of information now you would end up in a pissing match with the guy who wrote it for days and weeks.

Okay, then. If it's not true, correct it once the protection phase is over. Try mentioning it on the article's talk page; that's what talk pages are for.

and Charles, adding nonsense to a Wikipedia article is the sort of thing that will get you banned as a vandal. Do you WANT to be a vandal?

Anyway, the "DragonflySixtyseven" person seems to have apologized - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User_talk:John_byrne

****

I am just saying that from JB's standpoint these people that are misrepresenting him are vandals as well.

My line of thinking is that Wikipedia seems to treat gossip, whether it is true or not, as fact. so why not manipulate that to JB's benefit? Why not create gossip that JB finds enjoyable or at least amusing? And by Wikipedia's criteria that is fact, and therefore relevant.
