That X-Men DVD is my source. Nothing like all those issues just a few clicks away.

I thought that page from X-MEN #103 looked unfamiliar, so I looked up the reprint I have in CLASSIC X-MEN #11, and sure enough, the whole page is missing. I'm kind of annoyed. When I bought the issue when I was 14, I thought the reprints only had new pages added; there was nothing said about pages being dropped from the story. It does seem like someone decided to deliberately eliminate the whole "invisible in shadows" power, at least in 1987.

Apparently those Leprechauns turn up in Civil War, on Tony Stark's side. Of course, they swear a lot more than they used to, and wear black leather, but I'm sure it's them.....

I wonder who would win in a fight: Ultimate Leprechauns or Ultimate Count Chocula?

Well, ultimate Count Chocula would have Ultimate Boo-Berry and Ultimate Frankenberry to back him up...

"So Claremont was responsible for undoing this
Nightcrawler bit, or was it editorial?"
According to Claremont's own accounts, all of the
stuff he put in or took out of Classic X-Men was stuff
he wanted to do -- either things he wanted in there
originally or things he wanted in now to make them
line up better with where the title went ten years later.
"Did Claremont stop using/refering to that power
when he was writing
solo? "
I think he did, yeah, eventually. The ability was
probably still a part of Nightcrawler's repertoire
during Dave Cockrum's second run as artist, but ...
after that, I think it kind of faded away (insofar as it is
possible for invisibility to fade away). There may have
even been some explicit references to Nightcrawler's
"near invisibility" in shadow, to more strongly imply
that it was simply a side-effect of his indigo skin than
an actual superhuman power. So it was sort of a
tacit retcon, until Classic X-Men made it a definitive
one.

Unfortunately there are only a few issues of Classic
X-Men from 1 to 25 where nothing was subtracted --
even if in some cases it was only a panel.
Sometimes the omission was no more than
re-writing the text of one or two word balloons ...
(One of the more irritating ones for me was the
omission of a helpful footnote in issue 17 --
reprinting the Mesmero/Circus issue, 111. That
issue starts with the Beast talking about how Lorna
had called him to tell him that Havok had been
kidnapped. Then this is never mentioned again in
the entire issue, or any subsequent issues for that
matter. For years I thought that was just a dropped
plotline, until I was paging through an Essentials
volume and saw that originally there had been a
footnote pointing readers to the relevant issues of
Marvel Team-Up. I only just recently finally bought
and read those two Living Monolith issues! It was
good stuff -- and I finally know how that thread was
concluded!)
