Hi Folks,
The "mystery piece" that JB posted a peek of a few days back is now revealed and posted on eBay. Here is a link to it, as well as my other eBay auctions:
http://search.ebay.com/_W0QQsassZcapshockeyfan
The auction will run through Saturday, June 23. JB will only be doing one recreation of his published pages and covers, so this will be your only opportunity to own this classic image if you don't own the original artwork to the published page!
Jim

What a page! This will be interesting. I threw my bid on just to get the ball rolling, I know I'll get my doors blown off shortly but at least for a while, I'll be the high bidder. Good luck John.

Jim, you might want to add "JB will only be doing one recreation of his published pages and covers, so this will be your only opportunity to own this classic image if you don't own the original artwork to the published page!" to the ebay auction. I think that will reinforce how rare this opportunity is and help drive up the bidding.

QUESTION of JOHN BYRNE ---
When you light-box a piece like this - which were your pencils BUT Terry Austin's inks (it was Terry, right?) -- are you effectively mimicing Terry's inking style too?
But then you add you own inks to the final product OVER what you light-boxed of Terry's style - so does the piece lose Terry (or whomever the inker is on which ever work you're light-boxing) in the final "recreation"?
Do you do your best to preserve the original "flavor" of the piece?
Could you please elaborate?
Thanks
ps (I bid - but someone's max bid is set higher than mine, sob sob sob)

Oh, good. It was the one I was thinking of. Best of luck on the auction.

Looks great. That it was done on my son's birthday makes it really hard to pass this one up...

For example, I used a brush for the water, while he used a pen. The result is quite different, tho the "shapes" are similar. It's important on pieces like this that they not be too exact in their recreation. I don't want somebody passing this off as the original page, so it should be possible even for someone not all that familiar with original art to spot the fact that this is a recreation. Here's my own scan of the piece. It's a bit sharper than Jim's.

It's climbing nicely at $750 with 9 days to go...This is going to be a fun one to watch.
