 | Okay ... I have not bought any Marvel books since Thunderbolts was given to Warren Ellis. There just hasn't been anything that interested me in the least, and except for JRjr and Alan Davis, none of their exclusive talent knocks my socks off. So I was surprised when I picked up the new Amazing Spider-Man. My local comic show was doing a "buy 2 get 1 free" promotion, so it was free, but still .... I was feeling very dubious about this reboot. Even knowing that it was written by Dan Slott, whom I like. Boy, it's nice to have a pleasant surprise! I really felt like I was reading a Spider-Man comic, the Spider-Man I met when I was 8 years old. No disrepect intended to Howard Mackie and JB, but this is the first time I have felt that way with the monthly book since the '80s. I'll be sticking around ... at least for a few weeks to see how things develop. |

Sure you were.  Just not under the circumstances (of the character) that you'd have preferred.

Just wondering, if this new Spidey is to reach everyone again will the comic be available in the real world, outside of comic stores?

 | Why didn't they just go with something like this: Mephisto clearly has the power to make the entire world forget that Peter Parker is Spider-Man. Just make Peter and MJ forget that they were married as well. No continuity mess up, no how does this work, how does that work, just make them forget.  |

 | Just read the issue, thanks to that aforementioned co-worker's copy. My initial reaction was pretty similar to my initial reaction to Ultimate Spider-Man #1:  to paraphrase Jeff Goldblum's Dr. Ian Malcolm, "You do actually plan to have Spider-Man in your Spider-Man comic book, don't you?" |

 | Parker is Spider-Man. Just make Peter and MJ forget that they were
married as well. No continuity mess up, no how does this work, how does

Peter walks into the Daily Bugle office. One of the reporters waves to
him. "Yo, Parker! How's that foxy wife of yours?"

 "Wife?" Peter asks. "What wife?"

To make the marriage disappear, the memories would have to be erased
of everyone who had ever heard of the marriage. And, remember, MJ is
an internationally famous model. Knowledge of her marriage would go
far, far beyond the immediate circle of family and friends. Mephisto
would most likely have to mindwipe the whole human populace of the
 planet.

Which is not something he's ever been shown as able to do. Unless, of
course, he's doing it all the time!

why would Joe Quesada think that having the flagship character make a deal with the devil, is a more acceptable option than a divorce,or in fact just about any other scenario?

This is considerably more than a "change of circumstances".

Because nobody thinks these things thru?

This was the advantage to the Shaper of Worlds story Howard and I decided not to do
(if only, if only). The Shaper acts on his own initiative. No one has to make a bargain,
or sell their souls. He does it to mess with people, for "fun".
