Working on this piece I was reminded, as I often am when I draw Sasquatch, of the irate letter I received from a self proclaimed Big Foot "expert" after the character made his debute in X-MEN. The color was wrong, I was informed, as were the proportions, and where did I get this face, which looks nothing like a "real" Sasquatch.A reminder of just how literal mined some "fans" can be!

I thought I recognized the dry-brush effect in the background, Flavio. You beat me to it. Yes, there are times when I'm glad that I no longer tread the "fanboy" path. I never really took the character to be a "real Bigfoot" like that. He was in the Marvel Comics universe, for cripes' sake! Unfortunately, the fanboys have taken over the company within the last decade, and may likely be revising the character to suit their tastes. I have to say that this looks like Walter is either mighty peeved at someone, or Tanaraq has taken over and gone berserk. Whomever would be looking at that right now needs new underpants...

I think you really topped yourself on the use of the space provided.•• My first thought was to do a smallish Sasquatch uprooting a giant fir tree -- but then I thought the customer isn't really paying me for a drawing of a tree!!

Really a great Sasquatch. Love how he fills out the page. Amazing how a static image can convey such ACTION!

Amazing how a static image can convey such ACTION!•• I've mentioned this before, but it's worth repeating. I took two things with me out of the Alberta College of Art. One was how to draw circles in perspective, and the other was "gesture" drawing. In this sense, the word "gesture" did not refer to the small movements we make with our hands, but the "gesture" of the entire body in motion. And the way we were taught this was with live models taking poses for 10 or fifteen seconds. We were required to capture the gesture of the pose, rather than worrying about the details. This has served me very well, when it has come to illustrating action scenes in cBooks.

Not to pile on with the praise, but damn that's nicely executed, JB. Just bursting out of the page.

Love not only the way Sasquatch fills the area and breaks the frame, but also the scritchy-scritchy brush work in the background.
Fierce!
