Pretty brutal stuff. Pitch perfect ending.

"Brutal" is a good word for this!  There's a grittiness to Swann that I really like.  But he has an increbible degree of control.

This is one of the reasons I am very much looking forward to Arc 3, "The Little Princess Contract". Swann will have to be VERY much in control there.

Well, for much of the story, anyway!

You really seem to be expanding your range of faces the past few years,
particularly in COLD WAR - in the face and shadowing department, you are
approaching George Perez territory!

Great read and wonderful art. Really reads like a stand alone issue. I enjoyed the ending, shows how love can really blind us to faults in others.

I didn't even notice the text missing from page 12, chalk that up to great flowing art. The translation symbols are there, much better looking than last issue, but reversed from the way they're normally used. Still better than last issue. Stuff that can be fixed for the trade.

Like Vinnie said, lots of great faces going on with your art. A nice flowing pace, really enjoying the art.

I'm looking forward to the trade and future issues.

Next month NEXT MEN: AFTERMATH

I'm echoing Wallace's statements in that I think COLD WAR is one of the best series you have ever done, JB. I know for years I've been wishing for a Bond comic from you. Not any more. I want more Swann comics. ( Glad that wish is coming true.)

Everything is simply pitch-perfect on this series. From the time period to the perfectly matching art, to the characters. Damn, just an out-and-out fun ride. Kudos, JB. You certainly deserve them. And my thanks. As much as I'm looking forward to AFTERMATH, my most intense anticipation os for the next COLD WAR chapter.

Great story and I'm really looking forward to the next stories of Swann's adventures.

Curtiss Owl?  Nice.  I really appreciate you using a real airplane.  As a hardcore aviation bum I kind of get tired of the generic airplanes all the time.

Bring on Aftermath!!!

I trust you forgive the modifications I had to make for the sake of my story!

Of course, you said the Russians made a few modifications!

I'll just say "seconded" to Brian Miller's sentiments. Really, really enjoyed this series. Can't wait for further installments of the Michael Swann Dossier.

So far, COLD WAR seems to be getting high grades almost all 'round. Kinda fun/funny to see my work being praised so highly, when Mr. Swann's adventures are so very far from what I am known for (those colliding planets, again!)

Right now I find myself in a unique situation, contrasted to the rest of my career. I have three titles cycling round on the drawingboard -- one a "grim and gritty" fantasty, one pure escapist superhero, and one a "realistic" saga.

Let's hope I don't find something like this happening again. . .

(The story behind that drawing, for those unfamiliar, is that one day back when I was drawing the FF, AVENGERS and X-MEN, I finished an X-MEN page only to realize, a few minutes later, that I had apparently zoned out and drawn the Scarlet Witch in a group shot, instead of Storm!)

Ha! Great drawing JB.

Let me add to the praise. Honestly, I wasn't 100% excited about this series...largely because, I as you mentioned, it's not the type of story I associate with you. However, I must say I have enjoyed this series more than anything other than Next Men in likely the last 15 years!  I think the faces have been the most realistic and different, the backgrounds amazing, the story pacing, the characters...everything just perfect!

In fact, I would (and plan to) use this as an entry point for people who don't read comics as to why comics are (or, "can be") great. First person will be my wife...
