I'm with Tom on this. These costumes looked totally goofy to me as a kid.

These things used to bug the heck out of me when I was a kid. Nothing I would have wanted more than a Batman costume -- but Batman didn't have "BATMAN" on his chest, or the bat-emblem on his forehead!!

All of which makes this...

...especially weird!!

Is that Batman mask altered to be Daredevil?

These definitely bring back some memories. We had the Superman
costume...one of my older brothers wore it at some point. I never really
questioned its inaccuracy...close enough for me when I was 5.

Seeing some of these now does make you wonder what the hell the
designers were thinking!

I wore that Ultra-man costume one year.  I knew the mask was the wrong color, but remember wearing it a lot around the house.  Wore the Spider-man one year as well, purchased both at the local Woolworth.

Oh man! This brings back good memories.

I remember having the Batman costume as a 5 yr old and trying to paint over the Bat symbol on the mask because it wasn't accurate.

I had the first Batman one posted when I was a kid. I hated it. Batman's costume doesn't say "Batman" on his forehead, and like Tom, I felt you couldn't breathe thru the masks. I wanted the costumes to look how they were supposed to look.

Probably what put me off dressing up for Halloween. I still cringe at the thought of it.

My sister was Wonder Woman and I was Spider-Man back around the Halloween of 1980 or 1981.

My best memory of these types of costumes was when I wore a PLANET OF THE APES mask for Halloween.  To this day I remember two things; it felt cool to walk around as an ape and the mask was one of the sweatiest things I've ever worn in my life!

That's why I started collecting images for the thread! I came across that Red Skull costume a while back and thought, "I didn't know they made that one!"... and kept finding more!
