Which prompted this exchange over and over...

"Hey, It's Shazam!"

"No, I'm Captain Marvel. Shazam is the magic word Billy Batson says to turn into Captain Marvel."

"...Okay..."

••

I had that exchange, approximately, with a young artist in the halls of DC shortly after I agreed to do Captain Marvel.

HE: "Oh, you mean Shazam."

ME: "No, I mean Captain Marvel."

HE: "Well, I'm a purist. I call him Shazam."

And, by the way -- Shazam? Stupidest superhero name EV-ER!

I had the Batman costume when I was five or so. Somewhere, I have a photo of me in it.

Craig: Is that Batman mask altered to be Daredevil?

---

It's a 1966 "Daredevil" costume.

I had the Batman one and did a pretty mean Bat Dance when I wore it. But dang it made your face wet from the sweat.

It's funny, my oldest had costumes that I made him and I must say they were pretty awesome, but one year he pleaded "mom I just want a bought one with a mask." So he got one from the Goosebumps line, he soon realized all it does is make you sweat and limits your eye sight. So that was the first and last mask.

I'm ashamed to admit I somehow had that She-Hulk mask... I don't understand how or why. I suppose my Mum must have picked it up at a jumble sale. I had no idea it was supposed to be She-Hulk. We thought it was just a generic horror mask...

Couldn't I just have had Captain America instead, huh, Mum?

Were there really that many little girls lining up to be Dazzler or pre-Avengers She-Hulk for Halloween?  I can't imagine more than a dozen or so were sold for that actual purpose.  Spider-Woman, I could understand; SHE had her own Saturday morning show.

I distinctly recall wearing such a costume for at least one Halloween, but curiously I have absolutely no memory of which costume I wore.  I can remember the rigidity of the plastic and the snap of the rubber band, like it was yesterday -- but have no idea which (presumed) superhero's costume I was wearing.
