This may be the next little project that I'll be doing: a comicbook cover in the old fashion of the new Ms. Marvel fighting the Green Goblin, with a guest-star who may not be on her side.

Took the kids to Disneyland this weekend for spring break. Started drawing again after many years off. These Mickey heads are copied from Bill Wright's 1947 art for, "Spooks' Island".

More Disney heads, this time Donald Duck copied from Carl Barks' 1945 story, "Mystery of the Swamp".

Quick six-panel comicbook page layout. I've seen examples from discussions elsewhere about recent trends in comicbook storytelling techniques where something is missing in certain scenes. Looking at the conversation settings, I recall a page or two of rather static head shots with minimal reactions from the characters being portrayed. Hence, I go back to lessons learned from my reading of How To Draw Comics The Marvel Way, and seeing examples of how it got done by masters of the craft.
There's a lot of dramatic effect and urgency you could give even the most mundane of conversations by the use of a few changes in focus and angle, a stronger reaction to actions, and a bit of exaggeration in the responses. We never got this from all those talking head shots.

I started doing these challenge rounds with a friend (who is a professional illustrator himself). Each one chooses a Marvel/DC character, the other has to sketch it and then the one who chose it gets it back for inking (we both do it digitally). We've done 3 rounds already and It's been fun. Here I have Iron Man sketched by myself and finished by him and Captain Marvel the other way around.
