Joe , I love your line. I have not done any inking since my college days (over 20 years). Have just been pencilling lately but thinking about taking the plunge ,do you have any suggestions on what I should buy to get started up again? I have an old Koh-I-Noor pen set but I'm sure things got better since 1990.

Thank you Doug.
I switched over about three years ago to a Pentel brush pen that uses
ink cartridges. You can get one through the Internet for about $14-$15.
If I was a professional artist, I would use a sable brush with ink, but
alas, I am not, and the Pentel brush pen is so portable and clean it is a
better option. The pen is not great for paper with a heavy tooth to it, but
excels at smooth or plate finish. I love them and want to marry them.

A few years back JB told us that we should just practice every day,
even if it means just drawing lines from the thinnest to thickest, over
and over and over. Control over my line is getting better, and I am
encouraged by the progress.

Pens are still necessary with nibs for hatching, fine lines, and
architecture, but, the brush is so responsive to your mood and gives life
to a drawing that would otherwise look sterile.

I have also found that if you plan correctly, and know exactly what you
want for your image, and are feeling it, the brush can make a job that
once took an hour or two into a 45 minute carnival ride.

It's fun. Get one.

The latest work in progress. I'm going for the classic Green Goblin, the look designed by Steve Ditko and given a bit of tweaking by John Romita Sr. There's also a hint of a background that I'll be adding to the scene.

Filling in space on the layout pages, I decided to see if I could remake this character's design.
