Came across an article praising Alpha Flight for their immediate and natural diversity--but also raising the question of whether Marvel is "exploiting diversity".

That would be another term for race-swapping, I suppose. That point at which "colorblind casting" becomes its own shallow pocket. When the established (and often vital) background of a character is tossed out the window in order to "recast" him/her as a different race or ethnicity.

(As I've noted before, the most ridiculous example of this must surely be found in the first THOR movie, where two Asgardian gods were swapped for actors who were Black and Asian, while two brand new, never-before-seen characters were... White!)

Reading the first issue of PUNISHER WAR JOURNAL last night, with Jim Lee finishing Carl Potts breakdowns, I noticed a newspaper The Punisher was reading and on the front page was a story stating “Canadian Super Team Disbands” with a pic of Vindicheather.

ROM is a very good series. Mantlo only seemed to come apart on Alpha Flight.

Did Mantlo write the two ROM issues that AF appeared in? I have them (for the JB covers) but have never actually read them - wondered how faithful his version of AF was then.

Mantlo did write those issues. I'd have to re-read them, but do remember the plot involved ROM teaming with AF to stop Dire Wraith sorcery that would have destroyed a Canadian town.

with your feelings about Heather taking the suit being so strong, how did Marvel convince you to draw her "headshot" for the updated MU Handbook?

(LOVED that connecting cover by the way!  Ran it all around my room until i realized it looped back to the beginning)

I remember referring back to this page after reading subsequent issues to see what 'flight' characters were originally in. Good stuff.

At the risk of further derailing this thread into ROM territory, I posted a message to Chris Ryall about if we would see any more IDW ROM comics. He replied that hopefully before not too long.

Re Mantlo and quality of writing - I do think his Micronauts went off the rails when it got its second series.I struggled with that one.
