Guardian could look so badass on the screen. Sasquatch, too.

Of the many artists who followed me with the Alpha Flight characters, the number who were able to properly interpret Guardian’s costume could probably be counted on the fingers of one hand.

Time and time again I see the flag motif rendered as some kind of starburst, not the stylized maple leaf.

I think it would be boundless optimism to assume Hollywood could do better.

Prowling around the interweb I found some fan casting for Alpha—with a Black actor suggested for Guardian.

I was, incidentally, scolded in some quarters (from Bill Mantlo, for one) for including no Black characters in Alpha Flight. At the time of their X-Men debut I pointed out that I’d filled their ranks with representatives of Canada’s major ethnic groups, including First Nations, Inuits, Scots, French, Ukrainian (this based on my Alberta-centric perspective.)

At the time, the Black population of Canada was about one tenth of one percent—one in a thousand—so including a Black character would actually have been a huge OVER representation.

I certainly wasn’t shy about including Black characters elsewhere!

I think I would be more excited to see Alpha on screen than possibly even Doom!!!

I feel like JB, any attempt of an Alpha Flight movie will probably make me cringe. I'd rather read JB's run again.

Now that you say that JB, I never read Alpha Flight with
Canadian accents! I know that's very Ugly American of me,
but, come on, I was 13!

Only Puck was meant to have a pronounced Canadian accent, as signified by his use of “eh”. (“Ay”).

I never read the book with the accents either, but as someone living overseas at the time I did appreciate the breadth of Canada's socio-economic and geographic landscape in the storytelling without trying to come off as the Canadian Avengers.

And of course, just like the US, there are bound to be different accents for different parts of such a large and diverse country
