Sorry, I completely forgot about the black and white Howard the Duck magazine.  I meant the series published under the Marvel Max imprint in 2002, which I think would have been volume 3. As for Ghost Rider Annual, the original GR series had no annuals, so volume 1 of the annual was from the 90s and volume 2 was from 2008.  Aplologies for any confusion.

The 70s were a different time and since books and films like "Rosemary's Baby", "The Exorcist", and "The Omen" were so popular, it bled over into the comics world.

How well I remember Marvel (where I did not work yet) scrambling to climb onto the supernatural bandwagon. Anything and everything became monster driven. It was at this time that Hank McCoy was changed to a monstrous form, something that still does not sit well with me!

Thanks, but I prefer my rendition of the pre-beastly Beast!

Did you chastise Walter when he and Weezie re-furred Hank in X-FACTOR?

The first comic I bought was Incredible Hulk 187 where Adam Warlock is crucified. As a 7 year old I didn't get the reference. Now I understand this was one of those times a creator finished a story from a cancelled comic in another book. I recently read all the parts to the story -- 50+ years later.

I think you mean Incredible Hulk #177.

I'm reading Avengers Omnibus No. 3 now. In the letters page for issue 83, a person complains that too many Avengers are saying things like "Good Lord" and complaining that it's offensive because we shouldn't be taking the name of God in vain. The response promises to tone it down. A couple of issues later, a letter writer says it's not offensive at all.

I've mentioned before that I did a sequence in FANTASTIC FOUR where Sue had been captured by Doctor Doom and was being forced into battle against Terrax, with her teammates. I got permission from Shooter to have her say "Damn you, Doom!" as she leapt into the fray.

The editor, without consulting me, changed it to "Curse you, Doom."

Sure. Because people talk like that.
