quality of life 
 personal privacy
 personal freedom. 
 poorer environmental quality
lower moral values. 
 harder to raise children to be good people.

These are interesting poll questions, as they are almost totally impossible to define, and can be interpreted in many ways. Especially "moral values". It shows what people are thinking perhaps (optimistic/pessimistic) but it can't be quantified to say they were right or wrong.

My more conservative-minded friends back in that era were convinced that Clinton was going to find some pretext to declare martial law and stay in office. They eventually settled on the Y2K 'bug' as the thing that would do it.

This was my first real hint that the American conservative movement was moving towards unreality and paranoia as the central pillars.
