The only Hickman stuff that I've read was an FF TPB (Solve Everything), which I bought on a whim and enjoyed.
Going back, there was definitely a shift in my tastes as I got older. As a kid, I had read Spider-Man stuff from Bill Mantlo and thought it was okay (around the Carrion era), but I was turned off by his Alpha Flight and later Peter Parker issues. Likewise, I really did not like Dan Slott's Spider-Man.
There is certainly a talent to writing that is able to engage younger and older readers alike. Of course, there is a nostalgic element to reading a classic Lee/Kirby FF or a Lee/Ditko Spider-Man, but the best writers can strike a balance with their audience.
