@Casey: as part of the nuclear armageddon conversation above. 20th century visions of the future when the dates actually roll around can sometimes be way off. And Bradbury didn't really paint himself as a futurist. But this vignette of a smart home still attending to the needs of its vaporized family seems frustratingly prescient.

From a BBC article:

"The suggestion from Iran that it will now jointly coordinate control of the Strait with Oman is extraordinary.

Has the war turned the Strait of Hormuz into the world's most lucrative toll booth, with many ships paying million dollar transit fees?

Clearly none of this was on the cards before the war."

The White Brains Grifter got Grifted.......

Everything he touches turns to 💩

He clearly did not anticipate this scenario.

I like to call him King Shidas for this very reason, James.

From someone on Reddit (no modifications from me)

The total and complete victory that Donut J. Trump has achieved in just 38 days, in a move that will surely belong to history books, has:

- Replaced Khamenei (86) with Khamenei (56)

- Reclaimed exactly 0kg of uranium from Iranian plants

- Opened a Strait that was open before the war, with an updated $2M toll per ship (used to be $0)

- Proved F-15s and F-35s can actually be taken down by people who "belong to the Stone Age" (sic)

- Got US military bases destroyed across four or five countries

- Broken the mutual trust between these countries that the US will actually be able to defend them should need arise

- Got Iranian people on the street (although to protest in favor of the government, whereas they used to protest against the government)

- Instated Pakistan as a reasonable neutral party in Middle-East conflicts

- Officially admitted to sending weapons to Kurds so that they stir trouble in Iran (they didn't do anything and kept the weapons)

- Bragged about the Crown Prince of the biggest petro-monarchy in the Gulf "kissing his ass" (sic)

And all this at the very cheap price of a few thousand civilian lives, tens of billions of equipment and severed trust with about anybody not named Israel. If that is not the Art of the Deal, I don't know what you could reasonably expect.

@Dave: I don't look at the work of a science fiction writer and get alarmed over anything...it's fiction, not fortune telling. There's enough happening in reality to be alarmed over IMHO.

@Casey: Good on ya. Considering a number of the American architects of this war believe it to have been predicted by a two thousand year old book, I'm pretty comfortable with remaining impressed and slightly disquieted by how specifically prescient Bradbury was in his five decade old story.

Sure didn't take long for the ceasefire to go to hell.
