"That created a mess that led to CRISIS ON INFINITE EARTHS."

--

Which created another mess that led to ZERO HOUR, which created another mess that led to INFINITE CRISIS, then NEW 52, then REBIRTH, then.....

Again, the adage I use is that each DC reboot is an admission that the previous one was a failure.

The pre-CRISIS notion was that the DC Universe had become too complicated, and was confusing to potential new readers.

The reality, which I pointed out at the time, was that there was too much navel gazing. It seemed like no bit of continuity could be mentioned without unleashing a torrent of references that would certainly be confusing to anyone not steeped in the lore.

The solution, I suggested, was to simply STOP THE NAVEL GAZING. Stop the constant archeology. But DC wanted an EVENT!

There’s a guy who posted on Facebook complaining that you promised
Elsewhen was a direct continuation but you have references to Harry Potter,
so you haven’t set it in 1981
How very dare you!
I pointed out that comics occur NOW, and that references have been topical
since the year dot.
He continued to complain and maintains it should be 1981.
I’ve pointed out that that is not how comics work, but he’s having none of it.

I think he needs to stop reading comics, but that’s just me.

Being forced to relive the 80’s feels like consigning the team to Hell, but maybe that’s just me.

As a Marvel Zombie, Crisis (and he George Perez' art) brought me to DC where I stayed for decades. I read Byrne's Superman, the Wally West Flash, Batman and the Outsiders, etc.

Well there you go. I thought I had missed that, but it turns out it’s just
another made up thing someone decides to be annoyed about.
