Yeah. I hate that it sounds so final... but you've done so much. We can't get Augustus Gloop greedy.

Great interview, and even with the expected civilian-facing questions, I learned a couple of things (like, I’d never known JB counts Wrightson as a primary influence).

Definitely my swan song. When I finish my part of volume 3 I shall lay down my pen and be done!(Actuarially speaking, I have about 5 years left. I like the idea of spending that time doing absolutely nothing!)

If anything, I hope the outpouring has shown how important your work is to a lot of people.

I find myself chafing a bit at the “an” in the title. Seems diminishing. I would have preferred “former”.

The bent of the piece does make it seem like you did ELSEWHEN because you're an old crank who didn't want to exit the stage (of life, even!) before definitively, publicly correcting the record. But... that's not what you have said or even, as briefly quoted, say in the interview. This was for your own "amusement" and something "so much a personal project," never planned for publication. I guess it's boring to have people think that maybe you did it, ultimately, as a loving farewell to the characters, to your fans, to your career.

Has Claremont said anything about whether he’s read it?

Not that I've seen yet, but it's sure to come up in a future interview with him.
But, back around 2009 when X-MEN: EVERMORE was a twinkle in JB's eye, I remember seeing an outside forum post from someone purporting to be Claremont, saying "Strictly speaking as a fan, I'd love to see it".

Yeah, I immediately took issue with that, myself. Like, there have been over a hundred X-Men artists at this point, and this is but one of them.

This is nice interview. Wish it was longer! Makes me feel a little fuzzy inside to see you painted by Alex Ross.

What a wonderful interview, JB!! I love seeing how this project evolved over the years, and it was enough to just get the printed book. It's so awesome to see the reaction.
It's especially meangingful to me because I was introduced to your work through the X-Men by stealing my brother's comic books - he had a mix of Cockrum and JB issues, which led me to buy my own JB X-Men issues just as the Dark Phoenix story was heating up. I followed you to your other books and love that you had such a varied career, but your X-Men work is what I revisited the most. The origonal run and X-MEN: HIDDEN YEARS are touchstones for me, and ELSEWHEN completes a kind of JB trilogy to the team. What a ride!

I've been wondering who's the poster that we should be thanking that prompted JB to try pencilling something meant for another inker for fun, which ended up leading to 30 issues of ELSEWHEN pouring out of him.
