Steve Jones, 6 posts down last page.

Truthfully,  maybe because he doesn't have an avatar, I don't even know him. Can't place the name

Oh, that guy? The one who makes a point to disagree with everything and
anything JB says? Mr. Red Sweater himself? I can't remember what he said to
me directly that was overtly belligerent (my criterion for being put on my
Ignore list), but I do know I've had him there for at least a year now.

I'm to paranoid to put anyone on an ignore list.

Instead of an ignore list, I've often thought it would be more dramatic to have a signature line comprised of a "sworn enemies" list.  The list could be shuffled and reranked based upon your current stance.

That sounds like a whole lot of unnecessary effort. Especially for something involving the internet.

Never used this function and never will.

John Mietus, assuming I am not on yours and you see this a quick question.  I'm just curious, but if you don't "name and shame" the people on your list why even draw attention to the fact that you have one or use the function?

Has anyone here ever put up a new topic that you thought was interesting but got little interest from other members and wondered if you had been put on one to many ignore lists?

 QUOTE:
You complain about things that "wouldn't work", applying "real world" physics.

I don't complain about them so much as I just find it harder to enjoy the characters when I know their powers can't possibly work in real life. When I started thinking "how can Iceman possibly create ice when there's insufficient moisture in the air?" and "how can the Angel possibly support his wings without a really extended chest?" I knew I probably would never pick up an X-Men comic again.

 QUOTE:
You fault a point in the latest issue because it contradicts something you read in an issue you bought new off the stands twenty years ago.

Nah. I care about that not at all. If the latest issue contradicts something I read last year, however, I get annoyed.

 QUOTE:
You think the characters should be at least as old as you are, and some a lot older.

It depends on which characters. I've never been able to see Superman as 29. Like Kurt Busiek once said, he's always seemed "45 pretending to be 29."

What's really grown to annoy me is that DC, in particular, seems to want to have it both ways. They want to do stories that take place over explicitly long periods of time (the "No Man's Land" story in the Batman titles took a full year of time; Lex Luthor was president nearly a full four years; the DC titles are all now taking place One Year Later; etc.) and have their characters age, apparently, not at all.

If DC comics were still written in the old fashion -- short stories, often done-in-one stories, that take place over a very short period of time -- then sure, why should the characters age. But don't have all this time pass and then tell me that Tim Drake is still only 17, guys. It doesn't work.

I think I would prefer to have a real-life nemesis, as opposed to a pseudo-imaginary internet nemesis. I did have a few online rivals that I played against in the Dark Age of Camelot MMORPG, would those count?

One of the things I loved about the Marvel Universe handbook was all the pseudoscience that explained these things. Who needs provable empirical evidence to understand how Warren can fly? I enjoyed the effort put into that books explanation for these kind of things. Hollow bones and super effeciant musculature left me more than happy to suspend belief. I loved all those cutaway drawings of the Falcons wings and Iron Man's armour they were all the information I needed then as a teenager and they are all I need now.
