Refering to "legacy" names would probably be about #15 on the list.

When Clark is Clark it makes perfect sense to call him Clark. It makes no sense to call him Superman when he's being Clark -- and it makes no sense to call him Clark when he's being Superman.

It's like trying to imagine a literary discussion in which names like Samuel Clemens and Amandine Aurore Lucie Dupin are the only ones used.

I don't know if I'll ever be too old for superheroes.

My wife often says (only half-joking) that our kids-yet-to-be and I will be fighting over who gets to play with the best toys.

Whoops. I posted here instead to open a new thread!

Sorry.

Someone quoted someone else's convoluted argument that V For Vendetta was  a graphic novel because the series never finished, and it was completed as a book.

DC reprinted and concluded the series as a monthly and then collected it, so the argument, as I think the person quoting it here suspected, is bollocks.

To be fair to the reviewer mentioned at the start, though, the film's credits refer to "the graphic novel illustrated by David Lloyd". Because Alan Moore, the silly billy, took his name off the film.

I have a small problem with "comic book" because, here in Britain at least, it sounds just as "graphic novel" does, as if we're pretending these things are books. They're comics.

IMP.

Ah, but here on this side of the pond, traditionally, "comics" has meant the Sunday newspaper supplement containing the likes of Dagwood and Dick Tracy. This is why the original form of our beloved product was dubbed "comic books" -- it reprinted the Sunday Funnies, but not in the same format.

"Comics" these days has grown another meaning, too. Those folks who used to be perfectly content to call themselves "Standup Comedians" now want to be called "comics" -- even to the point, in some instances, of trying to lay claim to the term!

The other day I realized that the current Mr. terrific is a bone headed idea. He is a genius who is "invisible to technology". By technology they mean aliens, evil sentient computers, people or characters with mechanical  add ons(like the Metal Men or Robotman), and hacker-/dispatecher characters like Oracle and Calculator.

Yet his gimick is that he commands mechanical "T-spheres" that do  stuff for him (like stun people or make force fields or shoot beams). Oddly THEY can observe him and yet they are technology.

I think maybe DC needs to sort of iron that out.

Emery, did you post in the wrong thread or were you trying to be a living example of someone who has outgrown superheroes?

I was leaning that way.  I came to the Mr. Terrific party pretty late.  I read a little bit of him and thought "That's the stupidest thing I've ever heard."

<<dabs tear from corner of eye>> Is it time for me too?

Is that what his power is? What's so terrific about it?
(we are not growing up, guys, it's the writing that's lame)

I had never even thought of that...
