Or other Norman Rockwell paintings: Checkup, Traffic Conditions, Moving In, or my all time favorite: The Problem We All Live With.
Sorry I can't provide the pictures.
Of course, someone could also redo the entire ceiling of the Sistine Chapel as Superheroes. It is a big comic book, in a way, after all.

It's vaguely ironic -- in a good way -- that in the Thing Stan and Jack set out to create an achetypal anti-hero, the first of the burgeoning "Marvel Age", and instead created what may be the Marvel Universe's ultimate true hero.
+++++++++
Agreed. The early Thing was pretty grumpy and antagonistic at times, but he was still heroic. After he mellowed into the Bashful Benjamin we all know and love and developed that wonderful "voice" of his, I think that's when he became a true fan-favorite.
Oh, and great commission!

That's fantastic JB!!! The more Rockwell redux the better! Some here may have seen it before, but the pride and joy of my collection is a Rockwell Redux by Gene Colan. :)

It never occurred to me to think of the Thing that way, but that's right on the money. If asked, the average comic reader would probably cite Captain America as the MU's ultimate hero, but even he could be a self-righteous and disliked personality from time to time. I haven't read every single issue of FF since the late 80's, but I think Marvel has surprisingly stayed true to his characterization. Even during the sometimes-maligned Civil War, Ben opted to not take sides and leave the country for a while. I find that I am much more of a moderate in most topics, and that seems to make me friend to all, whereas choosing an extreme view of anything quickly results in strong opposition to others. It seems to me that Ben is the ultimate example of that type of personality trait (and therefore is liked by all).

I wonder if this Joe Sinnott piece would count as a Rockwell tribute?

Even if it ain't, it's still a fun, fun piece.

I really love Rockwell's art, so this piece to me is simply genius - what a wonderful idea and perfectly executed.
