BTW, Mike Benson, I think you're probably right on the money there. People full of irrational hatred are drawn like moths to flames. And the bullshit being spewed by Fox News and encouraged by the Teabagging movement is a bonfire the likes of which they've never seen before.

I'd say the obvious answer is to put out the flames then.

I think that's kinda what a lot of us have been saying all along.
Of course, decrying the lies and racism and hatred that's being promoted seems to be beyond some people's ability.

Well Al, I guess there is no convincing you. I've spoke up in the past against the racist posters and people screaming out racial hatred. It's wrong, it always was wrong and it will always be wrong. Just to be clear though, Al, what is your definition of racism?

FOX News isn't the only source of bullshit. Al you spew a fair amount yourself and so does MSNBC.

I really didn't mean to offend but It was the sicken me comment that I was referencing. Like I said I have read this board for a few years now and there are alot of strong opinions. I love a heated debate or a good argument but everyone needs to remember others believe in what they say as much as we do.

Welcome to the board Michael Sommerville , I am horrible at spelling too. The thing that cracks me up is some of these guys go to the trouble of making a sign to hold and have words spelled wrong on it. While wearing a shirt that reads stupid.
I agree with what you are saying about people just not caring, I work the polls most years and we are so excited when we get a 50 to 65 % turnout. And that is during a presidential year, on off years the turnout is embarrassing.
Someone mentioned Hillary as a nominee, I told Chuck when they started grumbling about voting no on anyone they appoint, they should go with Hillary due to the fact she has already been appointed. But I am curious, do you have to be a judge to become a supreme court nominee?

Jeff, to be fair, I haven't followed every word of this thread. If you finally spoke out against the "Monkey" banner that there was so much discussion about earlier, then I apologize for saying you hadn't decried the racism that had been specifically discussed here.
That said, you seem to have gone there again, with your whole 'let's ignore the racism so that I can say that the Democrats were just as bad against Bush' approach. That attitude offends me.

I am being devils advocate. Why is it that if you don't believe in what The President is pushing for, alot, not all, feel it is acceptable to insinuate that person is a closet racist? Are all those who dislike McCain against him due to his age? Is it fair to be ageist?

But I am curious, do you have to be a judge to become a supreme court nominee?--- The Constitution sets no qualifications to be a Supreme Court justice, so technically the President can nominate anyone, but that person will still have to get through the Senate confirmation. It used to be more common that Supreme Court justices were attorneys with no judicial experience.

Al, I used the word hatred instead of racist because frankly, I don't think many people would say that signs against Bush were racist if they were being held by a black person, or a brown person, or an orange person. Society just isn't geared to think of racism in any way other than white against everyone else.

Bush tried to nominate Harriet Miers to the Supreme Court. <shudder> She was his legal counsel and even republicans were upset over that one.
