This is a progress shot of a larger painting I am working right now. I will post a few shots of it. At this point it looks a lot different than this stage.

Here is a far shot so you can see scale. This is pretty much where the painting is at right now.

A little glimpse of some recent sketchings:

The above is a sample of what I'm trying to do in coming up with thumbnail sketches for a number of concepts that I've been striving to pull together.  One reason is the convenience of carrying the little pre-printed sheets with me to help visualize how I would break down a page layout for comicbook format.  The other is to provide a small drawing surface for those quick concept sketches that might otherwise take up too much table space during work breaks or while sitting around outside.

I came up with this villainess (alternately called "the Sultana" or "Lady Fatima") in a proposed comic series who directs Islamist terrorist cells that threaten the new country where the heroes live and operate.  Her back story is that of a woman who seeks to erase the shame of her family (members of whom had been executed in the latest of a series of purges) by serving the rulers of her country as an agent of their ongoing agenda.

Since more or less firing up my creative juices in recent weeks, there have been quite a few of these new characters popping up in my imagination every so often.  For now, I want to focus on getting the first story pulled together to see how it'll fall together.  I should have plenty of time to do that for the next month or two.

P.S.

And a "Welcome back" for Teod.  It's always interesting to see what kind of characters he's coming up with in his paintings.  Cat-men and techno-organic circus performers?  Curious.

I spent a big chunk of time last night looking in the toy and JB framed commission threads. Fun stuff.

I did some digital painting on a sketch that I casually worked on with a friend a few years back. He worked on some of the gears at the base of the character. Eric Fulghum is a perspective master and we used to hang out at night goofing around and sketching together. We have few pieces we both touched together.
