Great work JT! By the way, thank you Carmen for the extra feedback too. It's really appreciated.

Keep up the great work everybody!

JT I feel your pain about the long winded "flatting" process. Can I recommend these 2 free Photoshop filters
The free versions work fine, although there is no free version for 64bit CS4 and up which is a bit of a pain.

They're really helped me speed up my creation of "flats".
For anyone interested, my process using these filters is:

1. Scan/adjust black and white linework
2. Make copy of this  linework to a new file (so I now have 2)
3. On one of the files use Image>Adjustments> Threshold to convert this into a hard black and white image with no greys. Try to aim for nice thick lines with no gaps.
4. Use the "Multifill" filter. This assigns a random colour to each white area of the image.
5. Use the "Flatten" filter to remove the black areas. You now have what looks like a mosaic of psychedelic colours
6. Copy the linework from your other file and paste it over the colour file in a new multiply layer.
7. Select the colour layer and bucket-fill the colour areas with the colours you'd actually like to be there. NB: Make sure that the "Anti-alias" check box is turned off otherwise you could end up with weird fringing.

I know this sounds like quite a long winded process but I've got it down to about 10 minutes which really beats the hours of masking and filling I had to do previously. Hope this is of some use.

-Thanks Colin! I tried it out, but I still prefer using the ole Clicking inside the lines with the Polygonal Lasso Tool. It's tedious (but you get better with practice and faster), but it's the only accurate way to get in BETWEEN those art lines.

-Also, I've tried a number of methods for removing the white from my line art, and I found a VERY VERY good method where you don't have to sacrifice a single detail.

1) Go to your Layers Window - In the Channels tab, click on the little circle at the bottom that when highlighted reads "Load Channel As Selection".
2) Head back over to layers and hit Delete. Now you've got your artwork with no white.
3) However! It's a little ghost looking, so this part is important. Click on LOCK-Transparency for that layer, then grab your biggest brush and fill it all in pitch BLACK.

Your line art layer is now COMPLETELY undisturbed. Not a single detail lost, no whites/greys peaking through, no nothing, only now it's transparent instead of white.

No probs JT. The nice (and sometimes infuriating ) thing about Photoshop is there are dozens of ways to tackle the same problem. Every artist has their own working methods and you just have to go with what ever feels right for you.

In the end its results that count and there's some great stuff being posted on this thread. Keep up the good work!

I sometimes tape a larger pic to a wall and take a pic with my digital camera.  Sometimes it works perfectly.  Other than that, nice work!

Ahh, Joe, there's that awesome set of beer taps again.  Nice.

And in my mind, she's not fantasizing about laying on the beach, she's fantasizing about some other girl laying on the beach.

Ahem.  Sorry!  :)
