Wow! I've been gone from the forum for a while and it's nice to come back and see so much amazing artwork upon my return!

Joel - now THAT is truly worthy of the title "The Great Pumpkin."  Nice!

Dale - your "in memory" piece is beautiful.  Did you get that yellowed tone on the original piece or was that done on a computer via PhotoShop or something similar?

Teod - your work continues to impress - and sometimes frighten - me.  Amazing!

Some really good stuff going up in here!

Here's more of my latest:

I've been going through a slight reshuffling of my toolbox, finding that softer pencil leads can serve me quite well.  As was stated by Frank Cho at his sketch panel at this year's Baltimore Comic Con, the softer lead enables one to produce a darker line with less pressure, which allows you to erase said line with a kneaded eraser without risking damage to the paper surface itself.  I had tried the medium-range HB graphite at first, but have found 2B a bit more versatile and capable of leaving just the right darkness of shadow where needed.

My immediate plans will be to seek out 2B leads at the 0.3 and 0.5 mm thickness, and to purchase a set of better lead-holder pencils for these.  They should give me what I need (the older lead holders will be given away, as I don't need too many of these lying around).

Thanks Ronald. It was done for a friend whose father passed away. The image was of their dad when he was a younger man.

The orignal illustration was scanned into photoshop. I then adjusted the colours to add more contrast and give it a duo-tone/sepia look. I then applied a Diffust Glow filter in photoshop to give it a more softer glow.

She really liked it a lot and kept the original to be framed. She was also able to use the digital sepia image for the documents for the funeral. I was happy that the images help out well in this sad time.

Here is a sample of the original:

The colour was already slightly darkened. And the soft glow was already worked into the pencil. Using photoshop just enhanced the effects that were already there -- and added some softer glows to it.

PS: Is that project a variation of the Big Bad Wolf? It's great work but not sure if I can identify the large character?

Very nice, Dale!  Did anyone ever tell him that he had Robert Vaughn's eyes?  Very handsome dude!
