I suspect that Lee and Thomas are beyond the point of caring at this point.

If it sells more X-Men comics, Stan Lee's generally in favor of it.

Since Northstar has had such lousy luck with the dudes, maybe he's really straight...

In that panel posted on the previous page, I had always figure Bobby's comment came from his youth. He wasn't really old enough to be falling over himself to get to a girl. I certainly had that attitude up to a certain age.

I would say in today's society any public condemnation of this revelation would get people being called homophobic. This is similar to how people are called racist when against race swapping of established characters.

Wasn't Iceman 15 or 16 years old in his first appearance? I always thought he was the same age as Peter and Johnny. Is he really too young to notice girls?
Plus mutant powers usually happen after puberty. But on the other hand, unlike TV, with comics, we have known what Bobby had been thinking for 50 years.

If it's done by Marvel Comics, Stan is always (officially) in favor of it. He never publicly criticizes anything done by Marvel Comics. It wouldn't surprise me if Stan even winds up saying he intended Iceman to be gay all along, just like he's started claiming that back in the 60s he intended Professor X and Magneto to be MLK and Malcolm X analogs.

I wouldn't say Stan blanket accepts everything Marvel does. Remember when the rumors went out that Spider-Man might be made gay in the movies? Stan didn't seem pleased with that news when asked about it.

Why don't we just reveal Bobby as black as well.
Oh, wait. That's the Human Torch.

I've got the same reaction to all of this as I've had when any friend, acquaintance, or celebrity has come out of the closet—if it makes him happy, that's great. I don't spend time thinking about whether it makes sense, if I'd seen it coming, who that person had been dating before, and it doesn't change my own relationship to that person one bit.
It could be that living in San Francisco I've met a lot more LBGTQ people than the average person has, but someone coming out of the closet or having some confusion about his sexuality in his mid-twenties (that's about how old Bobby Drake now, right?) isn't at all unusual.

The Bobby Drake that was "outed" was actually the younger version from the past brought to the present in "All New X-Men". So... Teenager. I'm thinking they're planning on mining 6 comics worth of stories (that's one old-timey comic if you adjust for Bendisflation) by exploring the fact that older Bobby has not come out of the closet.
