I'll add my voice to the argument that Cockrum should definitely have been allowed some measure of credit for his part in Wolverine. The haircut is all Cockrum -- and that is a substantive part these days of the movie character's design. Credit where credit is due.

At the very least, maybe Cockrum should get credit for co-creating Logan!  If Superboy and Superman are two different trademarks, why not the same for Logan, Clark Kent, Peter Parker, and more?  Some secret identities are practically separate characters and sometimes even more well-known than the costumed identity!

(Do Stan Lee and Steve Ditko get credit for Miles Morales?)

Byrne and Cockrum each created at least 20% of the modern Wolverine, and anyone who says otherwise hasn't read the books.

Sadly, you'd probably have to give 10% to whoever made up his goofy patrician origin story, too.

Come on, both are responsible for much more than that.

Len Wein and John Romita created Wolverine as a teenager with regular bones and claws which are a part of the gloves.

Who was responsible for the reveal that the claws were a part of him? Was that Claremont or Cockrum?

On a related note, I wrote all of Shakespeare's plays, and my wife and I wrote his sonnets.

Adding to the annoyance, just now found this in a thread about the early days of Northstar:

“Perhaps nothing too bold by todays standards but considering this came out in 1983 during the heights of the Aids pandemic and that John Byrne wrote it (a creator who today is rather infamous for his bigotry) it is rather remarkable that comicbook would even subtly imply a message that it's "Ok to be Gay" given the time period.”

Infamous! A few gross misrepresentations of things I have said, and my creation of Northstar is presented as some kind of aberration.

sigh

All these years a fan and on the forum and I’m just now finding out you’re a bigot? I’m outta here.

I don’t know how you keep your sanity with this level of craziness leveled in your direction for decades.

Obviously, one can not truly "know" someone based on purely
internet interaction, but I "know" one thing JB ain't, and
it's a bigot. Grouchy old curmudgeon, sure! PS: big,
giant ;) there, if there was any doubt.
