Here's a link to the article. I'd heard Lucas was coming to the Convention this year, but didn't realize it was to make such a significant announcement. Personally I've never been a collector of original art, but I love that stuff and I think artists like JB deserve so much more mainstream attention than they get.

I had heard once that his terms with Dark Horse when they had the contract to do Star Wars comics, included all the artwork went to him. Don’t know if it’s true, but I do remember reading that in an interview somewhere.

With 40,000 pieces in Lucas’ collection, the curator could change out 100% of the museum space each year, and it would still be decades until a repeat showing of anything. I dearly hope there will be an online database.

Lucas says about collecting comic art as a student: "I couldn't really afford real art -- I love all art no matter what it is -- but I could afford comic art."
