I've been pondering should I buy this. I have the Man of Steel in two
versions already, that is Man of Steel tpb and Finnish magazines. But I think
the amount of bonus material is the key factor here.
Last year Man of Steel came as a tpb in Finnish but I didn't buy it because I
already have Finnish magazines. But it's published twice in Finnish (in 1987
and 2025), which means Byrne is yet a quite big in here as well. We also got
a collection of JB's Fantastic Four stories (I think it's same as FF Visionaries
#2) and the Dark Phoenix Saga. Mostly these have also been published in
Finnish already (there was one or two stories in FF tpb that were firsts), but
apparently nostalgia sells and Byrne is the best.

Yeah, the bonus material is what sold me. I’ve got the MOS hardbacks of
JB’s run and a year or two ago found a first print TPB that looked new right
out of the box that I bought for a song. So I didn’t really NEED this one.
But…

I’ll admit I sometimes roll my eyes at people who buy multiple editions of the same work—then I remind myself how many copies I have of THE LORD OF THE RINGS!

Your eyes would roll all the way around if you knew how many editions of your FF I have.  I even made a custom vol 0 of the John Byrne Visionaries FF before Marvel went back and made theirs...

Thanks for the instocktrades heads up Brandon! It’s even cheaper there
than cheapgraphicnovels. I was able to talk her into it! Ordered!

And they had free shipping.

You're welcome! If you place another order within 8 days, you'll get an extra 2% off loyalty bonus (which is how I saved a full 50% off on Absolute Man of Steel).

I would have a lot fewer multiple editions if the version i like best were offered first!

More like Man of STEAL! (Throw tomatoes if you must, but I couldn't resist).

Thanks, Brandon!

one of my earliest memories is being at a local comic convention in 1990 or so and begging my Dad for an extra $8 beyond my original budget so that I could buy a Man of Steel complete set (including both #1s).

I was about 10 years old, and hadn't read much Superman yet. He gave me the money, and the rest is history... almost 40 years later.

JB then signed a couple of these issues for me at a MidOhio Con in the 1994-1996 range. Sadly, those books are lost to time.

The impactful memories aren't, and I will gladly shell out few bucks for a nostalgia purchase every time they release another iteration.

(My first comic purchase was a TPB from Waldenbooks of the Dark Phoenix Saga. I was 8 or 9, and I used an xmas gift certificate. I picked it because my uncle was stationed in the Air Force in Phoenix, lol. A blind/uneducated purchase that set in motion a massive part of my life... thanks for eveything, JB!)

I have long been a collector of these absolute editions. they really did a good job with this one. The foil side and die-cut side of the slip case. really nice touches, and the essays by Carlin and Ordway really help put in context how big of a deal all this was back when it was happening.

This is a must have.
