I've seen kids (or adults) take their sketchbook around a con and try to get pros (or not-quite-pros--like me!) to draw their character. A one-minute sketch forty years ago (when it was easier to approach pros and get free sketches) is not likely very memorable, nor is drawing on the fly likely to look like the artist's best published work. (And the fan might have supplied the pen.)
