Probably went—tho it would have been a train ride, not a drive.

Driving in Calgary can be an experience. Many years ago, after lunch, I departed my residence in the NW for a yard party in the SE. Most of the travel time was on Crowchild Trail. The weather went from sunny and cool, to rain, to sleet, to clear and sunny, to snow ... and to a warm sunny afternoon at the yard party. Although the weather and road conditions can change rapidly, the greater concern is how well the drivers handle the changes. Travelling at a greater than speed limit rate on dry clear pavement followed abruptly by icy slick pavement can be hazardous to the unwary and any in proximity.

I’m haing so many Canadian flashbacks!

In ninth grade, in Edmonton, we had one winter day with a wind chill of -90°F. Since school was only six blocks away, and I was working toward a Perfect Attendance award I suited up and trudged out into the snow.

When I got there I was the only one in my home room. The teacher told me I was an idiot for coming in, so at noon I went home for lunch—and didn’t go back.

The teacher marked me absent for the half day, and that was it for my Perfect Attendance!

Bastard!

Living in CT since I was born in 1958, these winters were very common when I was in grammar school.

My first winter in this house CT got hit with a “perfect storm” that laid down 26” virtually overnight.
