Just realized yesterday marked the 28th anniversary of his death.

A significant loss to the industry, and to me as a friend.

I've consistently heard such praise for him, that I can't help but wonder -- what if Mr. Goodwin had continued as Marvel's EiC to round out a full decade in that role, 1976-1986?

Archie didn’t have the iron will necessary to make a good EiC.

When my nephew was ten he developed an interest in comic
books which I encouraged with some classics that included
the Star Wars newspaper strip and a Batman collection. I
offered to take him to a local convention, and he asked if
Archie Goodwin would be there. It was one of the proudest
days of my life.
