BBC

I believe that human life begins at conception, which brings me to classify abortion as a form of justifiable homicide. If it’s legal—and it should be—it can’t really be considered as anything else.

That said, there are times when the procedure is pushed to truly obscene extremes (partial birth abortion for example) and this Korean case must surely be such. The overwhelming element of cruelty takes it beyond a justifiable medical procedure.

For some reason, my mom gave birth to all of her 4 children one month early - so I was born pretty much the same 36 weeks that this pregnancy was terminated.

While I disagree with JB regarding when life begins. I also believe that in some, rare cases late term abortions are acceptable. However, what is described in that article is horrific.

Hope you aren’t a fan of the Quickening.

I don’t see how two living cells combined could make anything but life. Debating that really weakens the Pro-Choice argument.

I understand about weakening the argument.  I am as pro-choice as they come, but the "Abortion is Healthcare" argument makes me cringe a little because that IS the case in many cases but often it's ... not.   I think this comes from a thought that it needs to be justified somehow, and I don't believe anybody needs to make an excuse for why they underwent the procedure.  It's a private matter.  And yes, feminists are just as against the idea of forced abortions as it's not a matter of choice.

I like to read a lot of mid-twentieth century fiction, especially the popular reads.  Almost every book from that era features a character having an abortion.  (Well, not Beezus and Ramona, but you know what I mean...) And since abortion has become/was legalized, as well as birth control, it doesn't appear as much in contemporary fiction, proving that making something illegal doesn't make it go away.

A friend of a friend got pregnant three times, deliberately, and then had abortions. She was getting older, and wanted to “test the plumbing”, in case she found the “right guy”’and decided to have children.

It struck me as an abuse of the system.

Jesus.  Couldn't a doctor have told her as much?

"Abortion is Healthcare"

For many women in the United States, the reproductive
health resources provided by abortion clinics are the only
medical care they receive at all.

My mom was advised by doctors in her late 40s to get a hysterectomy, but she declined, because she said that she may have wanted to have more children. We tried to change her mind, but she wouldn't listen. Sigh.

Well, she didn't have any more children after all, but she did die from Ovarian Cancer 13 years ago today at 62.
