I have to say that a lot of what followed did not seem like
an improvement to me.

I accept I didn't have to work with him though.

That’s the key. Marvel was producing lots of comics the fans liked, and Shooter was more than happy to take credit. Internal politics didn’t concern you guys.

I do wonder that had Shooter remained, if he would have prevented the rise of the Image artists, or at least in the off-model styles that they developed into.

Though almost certainly his staying would have prevented you from returning to Marvel as well!
